Un55B8000 Samsung

I read most of the comments for this TV, as such an expensive purchase I wanted to make sure it would worth the money. The only downside to this television I could see people complaining about the sound is pretty poor and that the corners of the TV when a lot of the screen was black, showed a slight lightness. I can honestly say that after extensively searching the lightness corner I found this at all.

With regard to the sound, I find the sound more than adequate for a TV, even where those that money to the table on this and have no surround sound kit missing out. Regarding the TV itself, this is the best situation will be seen on any TV market. I have a friend who just bought a new 32-inch flat screen TV and wanted me to see his game on its new Blu-ray high-definition TV.

While he was sparkling as her picture was amazing, all I could think about was how my picture was much better with the normal TV not to mention a blue ray disc. The image is really that good. What I would recommend is, do not make TV as power saving mode you lose definition in order to maintain a dynamic setting for an incredible sight to be seen to be appreciated and wall mount this TV as its size and thinness it feels like it would not take too much to pull up (within reason).

Finally, I just bought a regular DVD player as the pair of blue light that I bought for my previous TV did not show much difference. When you get around to watching a Blu Ray on this TV, WOW, you do not want to buy a regular DVD anymore.

UN55B8000 SAMSUNG – Great TV, But On a Second

I bought a UN55B8000 SAMSUNG about 2 months ago. I agree with most all of my reviews before, but I have to add a couple of criticisms.

First of all on a screen this size, if you look in perfect condition dark (as expected), push the blacks and the colors a bit ‘(as suggested) and set the standard photo mode to anything but ( ie Natural, Dynamic, Movie) is located in the four corners of the screen 4 strokes of mist are like shadows that make the picture a bit brighter ‘milkier and soft.

I thought that was a problem with that particular TV, and only 2 days after I bought the product, I asked the shop to replace it with a Samsung for a new brand (which in reality will not happen immediately, but this was mainly a problem with the store itself, so I will not go into too much detail).

Well, I’m sorry to say that the problem is still there. As I already said that will only notice this if you are watching TV in the dark and correct the error only shows dark images (scenes at night for example I was watching Pan’s Labyrinth on Blu-ray last night and found the defect really annoying, so I had to switch to standard mode and change the settings to save energy to make my image less vivid).

I do not know if this is a defect with this particular model because of the size of the screen.

Furthermore, it is said, the actual sound coming out of this series, is pretty bad … Obviously, 99% of cases, if you buy a TV like this, it is expected to have a real sound system too (a good amp and good speakers), so this problem does not matter, but I had some problems with my amp for a few days a couple weeks ago and I had to go to the TV internal speakers. I was really appalled by how bad the sound was: very thin in places, with much rumbling surround sound .. in other words, just not very good. I think you really spend your money on the screen itself.

Finally, do not bother too much with the whole Media 2.0 is just a little ‘a waste of time. Games re pretty useless and boring and unless you have a shop I do not see why you should go through the hassle to launch even if the menu rather slow for a screensaver image badly photoshopped.

I wanted to rate this 3.5 / 5 But since I can not give points half decided to go for 4, because the TV and just really look elegant on a bed like this because it is hard to find better image resolution, but these errors are certainly there.

Samsung Un55B8000 55 1080P Led Hdtv

Amazing picture, contrast level fantastic. Upscaling of non HD pictures really good. Neg is dark segments loose detail, hard to see. Read about this in professional reviews. Is a little bothersome. All in all, this set is a fantastic value. 240HZ motion flow at times creates near 3d effects. This is bad resulting in an unnatural picture. In older content, 240hz can create a very odd, almost old soap opera find of old video look. Very odd. Simple solution is to just turn off 240 hz. Picture then is fine.

Overall incredile value and excellent picture. BlueRay movie’s so sharp a non-audio/videophile described it as almost 3D. If like many, you’re on the fence like I was on full array vs.edge lit LED’s, don’t wait. This TV’s awesome. I immediately did the firmware updagrade. The concerns expressed in some reviews of seeing lighter areas near corners is one of those things you have to really look for & decreased significantly after the firmware upgrade-as best I can tell.

It’s so slight that I’d certainly not pay $600-$800 more for full array. Internet widgets are cool, being able to quickly review news/sports/eBay account is also very cool. I was a loyal Sony fan & am now definitely a Samsung TV fan; as I’d have had to pay nearly $1K more for these features in a Sony.

SAMSUNG UN55B8000 55 1080p LED HDTV

Definitely the MOST stunning picture I’ve EVER seen on a TV…

It likely goes without saying that 240mHz makes a big difference. However, when I had my HD service installed by Comcast on this TV, even the technician said, “WOW, that picture is unreal! Is this a 240? It’s like the people are walking around in 3D.” I couldn’t agree more! It’s simply the most amazing television I’ve ever owned.

So, beyond my “shock and awe” I’ve owned a 50″ Panasonic Plasma and a 37″ LCD. Those two PALE in comparison! Even using a Bluray player on my 50″ plasma (also in 1080p)the picture is EVEN BETTER! I didn’t even realize it was possible!

My one caution for this setup, you better like HD reality. Many shows in HD or movies on Bluray look so real, you literally feel like you’re there. I watched an episode of House last night and thought the clarity and film work was so drastically different that it almost look more like filming of a soap opera. It’s taking some getting used to that’s for sure!

I can’t wait to try the Amazon On-Demand HD movies!!

“Best TV on the Market!” 2010-05-31

By Luke J. Lee (Baltimore, USA)

While many may compare this to plasma TV’s, especially the panasonic 3d tv which won the CES 2010 award, it depends on preference. For me, I have a brightly lit room and this tv shows amazing picture. In addition, the non-black frame looks perfect in the room. I think this TV is actually better than the C9000 because of the fact that it has precision dimming, which gets rid of the black dark corners that many have complained about in the C7000 and C9000.

“Pop-ups” 2010-05-25

By George R. Adams (Whitewater, WI USA)

I just bought a 46″ model 8000 LED 3D, and on the bottom of the screen are constant pop-ups advertising it. The Samsung support site says there is no way to get rid of them. Anyone planning to buy this model should think twice.

“Wow! Incredible TV” 2010-05-24

By Steven G. Brummett (Sanford, NC, US)

I bought this TV along with the Samsung 3d Bluray player, the starter kit, and an Onkyo S3300 HTB 3D Compatible Home Theater System. I am pretty picky about picture quality and was skeptical that the TV would look as good as the 7000 did in a nearby store. I must admit I have been thoroughly impressed. The fact the TV uses very little energy compared to peer sets is great and that it is very thin is nice too. It has internet conectivity and lots of widgets that I have not used much but look fun.

The picture on this TV is simply the best I have ever seen! Even my wife who doesn’t usually see the difference in TVs-was blown away. We compared it to the plasmas and other LCDs and it was the clear winner. I purchased from Amazon with no issues. Great price and great value. Buy it!

“Touchdown! Black is Black!” 2010-05-18

By Johnathan Seagul (Berlin)

Greetings from Berlin, Germany!

I just got this TV as well – here it’s called C 8790. I am really impressed. I have to admit that I jumped from a 27” JVC to the 46” C 8790 – so from a 5 year old TV to this brand new gadget. Thus the differences are enormous. The most mentionable fact I.M.O. is that black is just black. From former TVs I know what it means if black is something like a misty dark gray… A few days before I watched a Blueray with my wife and within the film we thought the TVs somehow switched off -’cause the screen suddenly turned completely black – then we recognized that it just was a scene within the film ;-)

On sunday I watched Germany football cup final (ah yes – you call it “soccer”). It was broadcasted in Full HD and it was amazing how natural and vivid the picture looked. I really felt as being in the stadium. Due to the fact that I live in the same city as where the match took place I was able to compare the sky (outside the window in the “real” world) to the sky how it looked like in the TV – yeah and didn’t notice any difference.

Considering the 3D feature. I don not care that much about it – I am an early adopter and I know that this in only the beginning and these are the first steps in bringing 3D to TV sets. Nevertheless it’s nice to see what’s possible and to get idea of what will be possible in future. There’s still a lack of real 3D Bluerays, so we’ll have to see. I watched a Star Trek movie with 2D/3D conversion and – yes – it looked three-dimensional and there was some kind of graphical deepness added to the picture. Though this is not comparable to 3D in cinema it’s exciting to have something like that at home. It depends on the input material. Tried this with another movie – did not work. Looking forward to upcoming 3D bluerays.

Mediaplayer! I got this TV connected to a network router. It immediately discovered my Upnp mediaserver (it’s a TwonkyVision which runs on a QNAP NAS). Browsing pctures, music and video was no problem. I needed to do some configuration work on the twonky server to get most of my videos sucessfully displayed and some still don’t show up. But at least my Simpons archive is accessible now directly via TV ;-)

The only thing I am still not able to get up and running is the timeshift feature. I’m using an external HDD on USB1 of the TV. The system checked and formated it. I am able to pause the TV (starting timeshift) but when I try to contunue watching after 30-40 seconds the picture freezes and I have to switch the channel to get it all working again. If I try to replay the timeshift from its beginning i got a message similar to “Unsupported mode, please switch the resolution”. I dropped a message to the Samsung support, maybe they know what’s this about. Meanwhile I’ll try this with another external HDD – maybe that will fix it.

But overall I have to say it’s a great TV which absolutely meets my requirements. Happy with that!

*Update*

Timeshift now works for me. My external USB HDD just was too slow to for that feature. Exchanged with another one – works fine :-)

“The best picture I’ve seen” 2010-05-16

By D. Day (Fort Lauderdale, FL)

the tv is great got it on sale & haven’t it seen that low since the only thing I don’t like is if you want to get netflixs to work you need to get a jump drive then go to [...] and upload the 15 plus updates. If you try doing it through the tv it says it’s up to date. You still need the wireless adapter (it’s at bestbuy) but it’s worth it no cables to fool with and looks great.

My only other beef is with the shipping company CEVA. NEVER in my life did I have more of a hard time then getting that tv delivered. They where the worst people to deal with I HOPE you never have to deal with them. If you do good luck and lots of patience. It took almost 2 & half weeks to travel 5 states. I could have walked it home in that time.
